Who needs puncture-resistant footwear?

DIRECT ANSWER

Puncture-resistant footwear is intended for work where nails, metal offcuts, sharp debris or similar objects may penetrate the sole. A safety toe protects a different part of the foot and does not automatically prove underfoot protection. Confirm the puncture-resistant marking on the exact model required by the workplace.

Toe protection and puncture protection are different

A safety toe addresses hazards at the front of the foot. Puncture-resistant construction is intended to address sharp objects penetrating from underneath.

Common risk environments

Construction sites, demolition, manufacturing, waste handling and some outdoor work can involve nails, sharp scrap or other underfoot hazards.

How to decide

Base the decision on the workplace hazard assessment and the safety standard required for the job rather than assuming every safety shoe provides puncture protection.
